SMS Of The Day: Tuesday

I SAW the following advertisement at the Katutura Hospital: “Prevent unwanted illnesses.”

I would like to know which illnesses are wanted? Food For Thought n UNTIL when are we going to sit and watch our mothers, daughters, sisters and friends being killed by the men who promised to love them? Namibia, the time for action was yesterday! n N$9m to Cuba, but what of Namibia’s poor and drought-displaced persons? n WHAT overtime at Home Affairs when it takes six months to a year to have a work permit renewed! – Afrikan Comrad Where To Etosha? n ETOSHA is the ancestral land of Aandonga and !Haikom! It was forcefully fenced off by colonialists! It now only benefits tourists and fat cats of NWR! The communities around the park lost hunting and grazing rights! What is the fuss about! – Ndonga Warrior n SIYAUYA take note: The Compact = US$76,9 m for education of which US$29,1 m is for vocational training, US$14,6 m for textbooks, US$20,9 m for teacher support, US$2 m for HE and US$1,4 m for HIV in Education plus money for tourism development and agriculture! You mean you don’t care about unemployed youth! n THE devil is in the details of this agreement. If there is nothing to hide, then let Government publish the whole document and let the public decide. However any agreement that excludes the application of your own laws whilst placing public property in private hands must be treated with the contempt that it deserves and so does its authors or promoters.Namibians are not stupid! n SPYL, one wonders why you only target Hon (Helmut) Angula and (Willem) Konjore as culprits for Millennium CA.May you could let us know why you left out (Pendukeni) Ithana who also pencilled the document.n WHAT’S SPYL trying to prove? Of all grants in the world why this one? Why didn’t you question the China grant or soft loan as they call it? Do you see the consequences of that grant? People (allegedly) being kicked off their land for the sake of Chinese development, Chinese paying no tax, tenders going to Chinese construction companies, Chinese pretending to invest but actually competing with SMEs, SPYL and NUNW r too busy pushing someone’s agenda, they are apparently not aware or too blind to see.n FELLOW Swapo youth, your observation on the Etosha issue is spot on, submit a proposal with your views and suggestions to relevant ministries, presidential intervention is not needed, there is no crisis yet.In And From The Regions n NOORDOEWER Clinic opens at 10h00.This is the service we are getting here.n ONDANGWA Town Council, wake up! When are we going to develop the town like, for example, Ongwediva? Why are the streets still gravel and the streetlights on the main road out of order? n IT is clear that the Keetmanshoop Town Council is far from managing the camps effectively, sustainably, cost-effectively and profitably.I suggest therefore that the council critically review its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats and consider outsourcing this potential income generation business. The Council simply does not have capacity to manage this function. n HARDAP Governor, are you aware that Hardap people have been effectively sidelined from all meaningful economic activity in the Hardap Region? We are becoming poorer by the day.- J Gomaseb, Mariental Politics n I AM not surprised to read in the newspapers about what Hon JK (Joel Kaapanda) wrote about Ponhele ya France .To me it is crime that the issue of trust and loyalty still remains the biggest barrier towards Vision 2030.Either competent Namibians are not given a chance because they cannot be trusted.Or when the chance is given, they are continually undermined and frustrated because they cannot be trusted or their loyalty is under suspicion. The question is loyalty towards whom? What is more import loyalty towards the appointed authority or loyalty towards one’s country? Are our elders aware that this country’s assets do not belong to the Government of the day but to the state of Namibia? And do they know the difference? And for how long are we as Namibians prepared to tolerate this? n I NEED someone to clarify the role of the SPYL, are they not there to help the youth, e.g.housing, accommodation, education, the situation at the Ministry of Veterans, how many times a landlord can increase the rent, etc.Education n PLEASE male lecturers of Ongwediva College grow up! You should set an example.Stop [allegedly] impregnating student teachers and bringing them into the college houses. That’s our parents’ tax they are living on.The houses are meant for lectures not for their pregnant student teachers. As a parent I don’t understand.n CAN someone give me an answer to this simple question: whose responsibility is educational reform? n GRADE 12 exam papers are full of errata.Physical science paper was full of errors. No wonder our children are failing.Bouquets And Brickbats n BIG ups to my boy, The Dogg for winning the Channel O award …you are the one …we love you man.n YO to all our music stars – Lady May, Gal Level and The Dogg. You all rock.Namibian music rules!! n CONGRATULATIONS and good job Brave Warriors.Good job Tom Saintfiet.Good support from our entire NFA staff starting from John Muinjo down to all the supporters. We really see there is improvement.- Kape, Mariental.n WILKO Risser and the rest of the Brave Warriors made us proud on Saturday.Maybe other Namibian youth can learn a thing or two and do or say something that would make us proud.n IN The Namibian of October 10 2008, Dudley honestly depicted Hon Jerry Ekandjo in the manner most literate Swapo members and non-Swapo citizens of Namibia see and regard him as clearly shown in the cartoon named ‘Jerry Wears Prada’.Thanks Dudley for a job well done and keep it up! – Wandja Kau Lema.General n OUR political leaders of all levels, including army and police generals, please stop wearing dark glasses when attending official public events.Respect the public and don’t try to shy away.Criminals do the same to avoid eye contact.n NAMIBIA Airport Company, please do something about your PA system! The echo is irritating! n PLEASE stop provoking stereotypes that could lead to racial disharmony in our Namibia.Look at what appeared in a local English daily on page 29 on October 29 attributed to Sister Namibia: “Also among the Hereros and Owambos, there is still the practice of uncles sleeping with their nieces to ‘train’ them in matters of sex.”Can anyone tell me where this is practised? Please stop these ridiculous, malicious, provocative stereotypes.n HOW did this beautiful animal come to this undignified end? Canned? Semi-canned? Was it the real problem animal? Or was the thicker wallet and greed of man the real problem? Shame on you! – Lilo n NATIS abolished learner drivers’ tests in any other language than English, but have they informed the public? Because the learners’ guides in other languages are still on the shelves. And how are people who do not know English supposed to obtain licences now? n I HAVE a question for the media in this country. Why is it that when RDP says something to Swapo, the media runs to confirm with Swapo but when RDP is insulted or talked badly about by Swapo, the media are very quiet? n (VETERANS’ Affairs Minister Ngarikutuke) Tjiriange, like Helmut Angula, is showing his true colours by the day.Disowning war vets’ children contradicts the GRN position as communicated by (Youth, National Service, Sport and Culture Minister Willem) Konjore and the Head of State.n WHAT is the (Windhoek) municipality trying to do at the T-junction at Maerua Mall and Centaurus School, cause accidents? n WE residents of Greenwell Matongo, Katutura in Windhoek have problems with Penelope Street close to Olof Palme Primary School. Our future ministers are being ignored by the municipality. The road is not tarred. The stones are getting sharper every day and it not safe for our children. There have been two accidents. Please municipality you have been ignoring our street for 10 years.Could you please tell us how long you will take to tar the road to the school? – Kylie n THE enforcement of the seat capacity regulation is long o
verdue.Bus owners who now claim ignorance should not blame enforcement authorities because they themselves were the ones increasing capacity to make more money.Look at all the VW Buses converted to 10-seaters.It was not the manufacturers.n ACC of the GRN please come to Valombola VTC and see how the centre’s vehicles are being abused.- Concerned Staff n NAMIBIAN street names are boring.I wonder which nations have their streets named after Namibian heroes? Disconnections THIS goes to the presenter of Afro Connection (Chi Chi) what are you trying to teach our kids by wearing such short outfits on national television. As an ambassador for the youth please try to look more presentable! n LISTENING to the NBC Otjiherero Service current affairs programme ‘Keetute’ yesterday, I was shocked to note that the Director of Elections was so hesitant about the number of political parties registered for the Tobias Hainyeko by-election when asked by the presenter. The previous Director was unable to read digits in millions.Hence, no wonder these guys are unable to run a free, fair, transparent and impartial election, because they are not competent. All they do well is to please Swapo at all costs.- PK, Otjinene n ONE Africa TV why so many repeats?
