SMSes For Fri 31 July 09

* NAMIBIANS, what do you really want? Why are you trying to be unreasonable? You think that there are certain people who are untouchable because of their positions. There are those of you who think that there are people on earth who are more human than others. Do not mix up issues with politics. If a person is wrong, he/she is wrong no matter who he/she is. We were all born once and we will all die once.

Food For Thought* SOMEBODY on the City of Windhoek council is misrepresenting me. How can they all be so united on the budget as if I supported them as a voter. Obviously, it’s a matter of belly politics. Meme Gwen could you please publish the residential areas and mailbox areas of all council members and their top executives. I think that would give insight into their lifestyles. Right now the Ministry of Works is running an advert for the Deputy PS, but the salary is there for all to see. City of Windhoek is too keen to claim the law allows them not to disclose that and they need good salaries to attract good staff. Really, now why did their ordinary workers recently protest? They even want to use our money to defend lawsuits after ill treating poor people in a very cold winter, my goodness!* TO the person asking each of us to donate N$10 for projects, it is a good idea. But remember we live in Namibia where our money will be privatised or benefit the small group of well connected as usual. * CREATE for us special space, for example, a voters’ demand box, where we can air our views or demands for election parties.
Bouquets And Brickbats * DR (Elijah) Ngurare, thank you for starting the debate on people-need issues (especially rural poor) and not personalities! I sincerely hope all political parties follow your example! Another reason why youth must take centre stage!- SheyaAn agreed sentiment* PEOPLE raising a fist in the boxing ring doesn’t mean Swapo. Everyone can raise his or her arms up with hands open or close, please leave the Father of the Nation alone.* THE Namibian Boxing Association must build a boxing stadium. The tents and mobile toilets are unprofessional.* WE warmly and wholeheartedly welcome Shoprite to Windhoek West. We salute their decision to come over here and call on others to follow. The likes of FNB’s management must do something.- Emiley, Oranjemund* I’M a regular customer at Namica Supermarket Okuryangava and would like to say I’m very pleased with the service provided there. Keep up with the good service.
Taxi Talk* HOW many nuts are needed? Tuesday, Tal Street, 16h00. A taxi stops beside me at the robot. Wow, nice rims, I think. But then in the five nut holes only three nuts, the front wheel only two of five. And the taxi was full! My question how many nuts per wheel are really needed? At the next strike, City Police should take the chance and make a big inspection.* WHAT taxis? Put a permanent sign on top and paint them taxi colours! Many of you are criminals and you know it. What are you afraid of?- Emma, Namibia!* NABTA, we concerned citizens are complaining about road accidents every day which are mostly caused by long-distance buses and taxis in town too. Nabta please do something. Put measures in place to prevent at least half of the accidents. At least put a speed limit device that cuts out. For example national roads 120 km/hour and 60 km/h in town. We won’t stop accidents but at least prevent some. Please Nabta and Government do something. * THANKS Cosmos Radio, The Namibian and sponsors for the idea to give taxis numbers to identify and report. All Namibian people will definitely contribute to safer roads. * I WONDER! Does a Police officer have the right to hit anybody? Some taxi drivers were [allegedly] hit as they were taken into custody. That anyone could visibly see if you watched One Africa News last night.* A TAXI’S sign should resemble the Traffic Control car’s sign with a bar across the roof fixed on the edge of the car body.* THE manner in which certain taxi drivers protested against municipal regulations clearly shows that they have no respect for their clients and fellow taxi drivers. What right do they have to prevent people to be on time for work by pulling commuters out of non-protesting taxis? We the commuters should support the authorities in order to regulate the taxis. After all we pay a lot of money and it is about time that we insist on safe and better taxi services!* GOVERNMENT must ensure that taxis have one colour, taxi drivers must have uniforms with names on and the taxi plate must be on top. This is good to prevent crime. * TAXIS in Windhoek should be marked with strips like the ones in Oshakati. They should depict the city’s image. Taxi operators are not above the law. City Police and Nabta should really work on this issue. No Man’s Land* I AM writing to beg the two governments of Namibia and Botswana to reconsider their rather harsh decisions not to (re)accept the refugees, who now find themselves stranded in the no-man’s land between our countries. Please, on humanitarian grounds, accept those people (back). I observed a woman who looked sad, and I saw children whose future is bleak. These are the people I see as victims in this squabble. Please do not allow these people to suffer due to a decision (to leave Namibia) they never made themselves. Please, I am begging you, reconsider for the sake of the vulnerable!Shalli* GENERAL Martin Shalli! I know what you are going through now, it is very painful. But remember what happened to Mr HH. A Commission of Enquiry was constituted, but up to now no findings were given publicly. If it’s true that they are combating corruption, why with you only? What about the N$3,1 million, which got lost at the Ministry of Defence? Was there anyone suspended or was that not corruption? ODC money went missing. No one was suspended why? Personally I’m not convinced by the move because of inconsistency. Be strong as you were during the struggle of our land. Most of us never forgot for what you have done during the dark days. Shaweda okambwena osheya! That means when a small dog barks, something is nearby.- Hafe* LIEUTENANT General Shalli is a professional soldier. He is a dedicated military man and has nothing to do with any party affiliation whether it is ruling or opposition. He has been always impartial in his conduct. His suspension is quite a serious setback to a great career.- Nelao George* AND now who is going to replace Shalli? I don’t think he will come back to the NDF again. His credibility is shattered. He might decide to dig another trench from where to continue fighting for Namibia’s noble cause of development.- El VaqueritoElection Exasperation* NAMIBIANS are going to vote for two days because we cannot do it in one day! What a joke! South Africa and Nigeria, with voters well over 10 million each, voted in one day. There must be a sinister plan behind it, as usual. I’m convinced we can vote, count and forward results all in one day. In this way we will ensure realistic and true results. Namibians wake up and smell the coffee. – KambandaPolitics* To MAG: What is a ‘civilised hiding’? Do you give the hiding and then say sorry or what?* DEAR editors! I just want to give my thanks to our Swapo Party’s CC and our Politburo for the approval of Uncle Cde H Geingob in that position for the upcoming election.- Cde E Shuundeni in Walvis Bay
Politics In General* IT is now very clear what the Chinese policy in Africa is. Corrupt the African leaders and plunder the continent. Africa has been turned into a prostitute by the rest of the world and we just stand on the side and watch while our continent is being raped. Shame on us.* PLEASE, our Government must try to negotiate with the Angolan government. As Namibians we are being arrested for nothing when visiting our family in Angola, while they are here enjoying our country.- AziIn And From The Regions* COMRADE Kankoshi, please do something about Onankali, Comrade Punyu, please do something about Punyu Village. These places are terribly dirty. We need houses now* PLEASE NHE Keetmanshoop, finish the houses because we want to move in, what is the reason for the delay?* HOW does the Miss Namibia committee select their finalists? We Ondangwa girls also want to be part of it. How can a person with 25 titles not qualify. It’s Miss Namibia, so please select in a fair manner.* JUSTICE Ministry, why are the public toilets at the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court so dirty? Are there no cleaners or what? * I VISITED a cousin of mine last Friday at Grootfontein State Hospital between 16h00 and 17h00 and was very disappointed at how a nurse who went to study nursing and attended workshops could shout at a patient who is ill and weak. Learn and understand the word ‘nurse’ before applying for the course. – Concerned resident* YOU, the so-called leaders, like to count on minor issues, now its again gay and lesbian issues. Please stop it. Make plans to develop the south. Ag! Please! Karas and Hardap there’s nothing. I am from Tses.* THE Municipality of Oshakati must come and check the water pipes behind Cabatana School because residents from a house behind this school are digging up other residents’ water pipes. And at the end of the month we end up paying a huge water bill. But we can no longer tolerate this. Please come and check this place as soon as possible. – Concerned resident* WE as the Hai’oms from Oshivelo want an answer as to why the Government cannot buy the farms, Geluks Anker, Ruimte, Operet after so many promises have been made.* ARIAMSVLEI border post is always dirty but the cleaners are sitting around. Why? They must work eight hours. They must stop that practice. Please, Immigration.* THE Tsumeb Municipality has apparently budgeted for: Mayor’s entertainment budget N$45 000, CEO’s entertainment budget N$80 000 and his senior team, N$2,4 million for S&T for management and councillors, salaries and allowances for councillors $1,2 million. Please people, enough is enough. Let us take a stand now, tomorrow might be too late.Running The Show* HIV & AIDS Programmes in the workplaces. It seems that in Namibia employers can choose to have or not to have a workplace HIV & AIDS Programme. Why can’t our Parliament pass a law compelling each employer to implement one like what I read about Mozambique? Also there is need to transfer the HIV & AIDS national co-ordination from the Ministry of Health into the Office of the Prime Minister or Office of the President like in Botswana & South Africa? I think this will prove political will and accountability by all Ministries in Namibia.- PD, Windhoek* CAN the president also suspend someone who’s been doing nothing since he was elected to serve the people?- Kambila.
* TO the Ministry of Safety and Security, Hon Dr Nickey Iyambo please look into Police houses that are old because they are not renovated. Why can they not be alienated? * THE Ministry of Trade and Industry and National Planning Commission should invent an advanced research system to help SMEs strengthen their markets.- TIA, WindhoekGeneral* PEOPLE complain about Parliamentarians, you should see the City of Windhoek Councillors in action! * THE writer I M MS explanation of Al Jazeera peninsula’s meaning. I dispute the network is not in the Middle East but in Malaysia which is on a peninsula. * WHAT’S happened to the Oranjemund treasure? Rumour has it the gold coins were transferred to Windhoek and have gone missing already.- THE coins were in fact transferred to Windhoek and we have been told they are safe. – Newsdesk* WHAT happened to the Hitman SMS competition? Who won? I am smelling a rat. Prizes were not even mentioned when the competition was advertised. Can the organisers provide feedback please?City Fathers Please…The arrows add impact* CITY of Windhoek please put arrows in your robots [three-way robots] for traffic turning from Moses Garoëb into Hendrik Witbooi at lunch and 17h00 as well as Andrew Kloppers and Moses Garoëb.* CITY Police, Namibian Police please help us our lives are in great danger. For Rocky Crest residents, house/car breaking has become a way of life. City of Windhoek it’s now time to balance your responsibilities. Stop concentrating on vehicle roadworthy certificates. Namibia provide us with a mini (police) stationEducation* I’M a Unam student and I wasted N$20 worth of credit. I have SMSed to the #2003 for my results about 20 times but I haven’t received my results yet! What is going on?* PLEASE PS for the Ministry of Education help Lusese School in Caprivi. The buildings are falling down and the roof is loose but the regional planner is ignoring the pleas from the school. A disaster is waiting to happen!* THE Ministry of Education is always saying that new teachers are not teaching well and that’s why learners are failing. But how can a teacher be productive if he/she is not being paid on time, resulting in this particular teacher putting his/her work on hold to enquire about the salary. This is happening at Rundu.Health Matters* I NEED help! I have had back pain for some time now. The hospital gives me the same tablets every time. Please anyone, some advice.* IF you have missed the second polio drops, come and join us next year.Labour Issues* NANTU when are we going to get our bush allowance? We are sick and tired of waiting! Do you know that our life is danger from snakes, lack of accommodation. Please Min of Education we want accommodation in rural schools.* PLEASE NAMIBIAN DCA. We in the industry we are happy for what the new airworthiness inspectors are doing but what shocked us is: whenever there is an aviation conference, only the expert team of Icao goes. Why? We want the new inspectors to be trained because they have proved to us that they are capable of inspecting our aircraft. Keep it up guys. Director, training is the key. Thank you!- Aviation industry* WHY is it not a must for companies to join the unions in Namibia?Service Please* NAMPOST Courier. If you send something to Omuthiya, it is taken to Ondangwa. Why? I thought Omuthiya is a town on its own. We are paying our money just for our things to be taken to other towns. Improve. * WE are concerned about calling MTC between 22h00 and 06h00. The network is just busy. What if one is in danger and needs to call for help? MTC please do something to your network.* NAMPOST, I deposited money into a relative’s account on July 10 but until now the money is not in.* KFC has done it again! Namibians you need to watch out when buying Kentucky. I bought 21 pieces on Friday only to receive 19 pieces. * ON behalf of the Oranjemund community! We are sad and angry with NBC TV. There has been no clear picture on TV as from June 1 this year. Please do something very urgent,we want to watch our TV because we pay for it.- Akwega, Oranjemund.
