SME Expo next week

ABOUT 50 Namibian Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are being given yet another boost at this year’s Windhoek SME Expo, a two-day event at the NamPower Convention Centre beginning on Wednesday.

The annual event gives SMEs an opportunity to showcase their products to the public as well as Government agencies in order to create new business links and give SMEs better access to markets. The expo, which has been running for four years, is organised by SMEs Compete, a Namibian private entity launched in 2004 which has provided income growth and employment creation support to more than 700 SMEs since its inception.SMEs Compete Directors Claudine Mouton and Danny Meyer feel that the expo provides invaluable assistance to small business owners.’It will provide managers of large business entities and the public sector as well as the general public with an opportunity to see just how competitive Namibia’s SME sector is becoming,’ says Meyer. As well as providing a showcasing platform for small businesses, the expo will give emerging business owners a chance to liaise with more seasoned entrepreneurs in the form of an Entrepreneurs’ Round Table to be held on the second day of the expo.Mouton says that the forum is aimed to ‘help entrepreneurs hone their skills’ and she looks forward to what she believes will be ‘an excellent sharing of ideas and learning experience’.The event will be hosted by the Development Bank of Namibia, First National Bank Namibia and Bank Windhoek, three banks which have made a point of providing finance to SMEs over the past few years.ndapwa@namibian.com.na
