XEMPLAR Energy Corporation, a Canadian based exploration company focused on developing uranium projects, recently announced that it has started drilling at its Cape Cross Uranium Project.
Xemplar’s Cape Cross Uranium Project is located in northwest Namibia, near the Atlantic coast, some 20 kilometres inland from Henties Bay and within the country’s uranium corridor where large uranium mines, such as Rio Tinto’s Rossing Uranium and Paladin Resource’s Langer Heinrich, are found. The Trekkopje and Valencia deposits are also located in the uranium corridor. Xemplar CEO Simom Tam said in a recent company statement that the Cape Cross drilling programme was running in conjunction with the company’s extensive drilling programme at its Warmbad project in the south of the country. The drilling is being done through the company’s wholly owned Namibian subsidiary, Namura Mineral Resources, which holds three Exclusive Prospecting Licenses (EPL) at Cape Cross covering an area of 2 773 square kilometres. ‘The drill programme at Cape Cross will entail drilling at high priority targets along a wide, 60 kilometre long paleochannel that was identified by the interpretation of an electromagnetic survey carried out for a water resource study. Coupled with historical work that has been conducted, and some preliminary drilling that was completed in 2008, we feel that we have identified targets that are of high interest for uranium mineralisation,’ stated Tam. In 2007, Xemplar’s Namura Mineral Resources announced that it had found uranium deposits near Warmbad in southern Namibia, where it holds an exploration license for an area of about 470 000 hectares. luqman@namibian.com.na
