N$60 million make-over for Carl List Haus

The Carl List Haus in the center of Windhoek will be renovated and receive a major facelift to the tune of about N$60 million.

The Haus has undergone only minor improvements in the last 47 years. Marco Wenk, Managing Director of Broll Namibia, said ‘we have recently signed a 10-year Lease Agreement with the Alexander Forbes Group for the Carl List Haus and will start with immediate upgrades and refurbishment to ensure that all of Carl list Haus’ tenants step into a modern, secure and unmarked office block’.Alexander Forbes will occupy up to 5,500m2 from June 2010.The upgrade will include a new facade, centralised air conditioning, the replacement of the steel windows with aluminum ones and a new entrance. A retail mall will also link the courtyard with Independence Avenue. All the existing residential flats will also be converted into first grade offices. The open courtyard will be closed off with a lightweight roof and the new mall will receive an overall up-market look with new tiles and new shop fronts.A few new retailers will be added to the tenant mix on the ground level, which will cater for the office user as well as the tourists. The new building will also have an exclusive gym and canteen catering for the tenants. Four extra parking decks will be added to cope with additional parking requirements.’The total refurbishment of the Carl List Haus is an investment of N$60 million into the Central Business District of Windhoek, thereby contributing to the overall up-market and clean look and feel of the City Center and enhancing the value of property within the CBD of our capital city,’ said Sven Thieme, Executive Chairman of the Olthaver and List Group. The Carl List Haus was constructed in the early 1960’s.
