THE Karas Governor’s office on Monday hosted a gala dinner in honour of the academic achievements of Juliana Apollus.

As a grade 12 pupil in the US, Apollus was awarded the prestigious US President’s Award for Educational Achievement in 2008 and was also accepted as a member of the US’ National Honour Society of Secondary Schools.Juliana Apollus went to school in the US because her mother, Sarah Apollus, was posted there by the Foreign Affairs Ministry.Speaking at the event, Karas Governor Dawid Boois applauded Apollus for her achievements. ‘With your academic excellence you have shown the USA that Namibia is part of the global world,’ Boois said. For her part, Apollus urged leaders to keep the youth off the streets. ‘We can build a skilled nation,’ she said, receiving loud applause from politicians, well-wishers and relatives in attendance. She thanked her parents and others who supported her efforts to excel in her studies and she urged other pupils to strive to achieve goals they have set for themselves. ‘With the help of God, only you can determine your destiny,’ said Apollus.
