* MUNICIPALITY makes more money: Note on back of monthly statement reads, ‘the amount due has been rounded to the nearest 5 cents’. My bill of N$385,51 is duly rounded up to N$385,55! Surely the ‘nearest’ 5 cents will be 50 & not 55? If Windhoek Municipality’s making 1 to 4 cents on every account it rounds, how much extra each a month does this add up to?? Who can we complain to?

* IN respect of the Constitution and the people of this country, particularly the taxpayers, could State House inform the nation the amount of money Swapo Party paid for the recent political campaign trail by the President using State resources?

* PRESIDENT (Hifikepunye) Pohamba and Prime Minister (Nahas) Angula only you and almighty God can help us the poor citizens of Namibia. We can no longer pay for these self-enrichment schemes of the elite like in the case of the X- machines bought for customs. Don’t tell me any longer that we live in a democracy and I can vote. I don’t want to vote I want to buy more food and clothes for my family not luxury cars. This I can only do if you lower taxes and rates but self enrichment and theft does not allow for a lowering of State expenditure. Cut the waste and theft, lower VAT. Please I just want to feed my family better. * I HAVE an excellent solution for global warming. Everybody that lives in a radius of 10 km from work get a mountain bike or jog to work. * PRESIDENT Hifikepunye Pohamba on NBC-TV news last night attacked NSHR as ‘an irresponsible organisation’ that removed refugees from the Osire Refugee Camp and dumped them, including women and children, in an international area between Botswana and Namibia without food and in cold weather. The DRC refugees fled because of death threats by officials, they were given 30 days to leave as there is no reason to flee their country and their political statement ‘constitutes a threat to peace and security in Namibia’. Those refugees have been stranded at an NSHR office for a month. The chief of UNHCR in Namibia knows about it. Mr Pohamba has a letter from the NSHR warning him of refugees wanting to leave, including the urgent fax of June 15, to the UN. I am referring to reports of refugees taken from Osire by NSHR and are now stranded in no man’s land between Namibia and Botswana apparently because they are not safe in Namibia. Should the EOs down tools, like the college lecturers did, before their plight can be taken seriously? What injustice! This shows you that the person in such a position is not competent enough for the task. What will the appointing authority do? Such people should be fired or assigned different responsibilities before they cause even more damage. Is this corruption or simply poor management? This is just too shameful. These are the kind of matters for which citizens should put politics aside. * I WONDER, in our small town Outjo, if someone is ever going to open a coffee shop or a small gathering place for our community members who don’t drink alcohol. Every second shop opening is just for alcohol and crime is getting higher as well as sex
and disease. How do we employ job seekers in this case. Please those who have funds try a different thing rather than bars and shebeens.* ON June 24 2009, I was arrested by Ongwediva Police officers as a housebreaking suspect. They detained me for almost 42 hours (more than a day and a half) without eating anything. I only tasted a cold katete from maybe Oshakati cells on Friday, June 26, at around 10h00 when they released me saying there was no evidence, go home!* TO the author of the letter titled ‘Caprivi Is The Poorest Region In Namibia’. His text implies we are the most neglected. First, the region is rich in (renewable) natural resources and second a lot has happened for the region to appreciate (not blindly) the Swapo Government. Sorry for him we are not all as prejudiced. To mention a few developments, the college campus, two new schools and two clinics in town only, a beautiful open market place, plus the EPZ. We hear it’s 80 per cent positive and we don’t have a clinic at Malengalenga village. * ALL people in the meningitis outbreak areas should be immunised. The first suspected case was reported on the May 23 2009 but nobody said anything, only now that it has claimed the lives of our two innocent children.
