THE Southern Stream First Division promotion playoff matches were evenly poised after Blue Waters and Friends recorded victories on Sunday.
Blue Waters beat Invincible 2-0 at the Usab Stadium in Karibib while Friends beat Monitronics 2-0 at Windhoek’s Independence Stadium. With one round of matches remaining next weekend, Blue Waters and Friends now lead the mini league with four points each, followed by Invincible on three points, while Monitronics still have to open their account. At Windhoek’s Independence Stadium, striker Dylan Maritz scored a brace as Friends beat Monitronics 2-0. Maritz opened the scoring early in the second half when he latched onto a cross by Ricardo Snyders to volley the ball into the net. Maritz completed his brace when he latched onto a throughpass to beat Monitronics’ keeper John Kaahiriko from close range. Monitronics had their fair share of chances but failed to find the net. Monitronics’ defeat was their second in a row and they have now been eliminated from the race to win a place in next season’s Premier League.Blue Waters bounced back into contention with a 2-0 victory against Invincible on Sunday. The result means that Blue Waters and Friends now lead the playoff league with four points each while Invincible are third on three points.The final matches take place next Saturday, with Blue Waters taking on Monitronics in Karibib, while Friends and Invincible face each other in Windhoek. – www.namibiasport.com.na
