Hockey set for Rundu

SANLAM Namibia and the Namibia Hockey School of Excellence will host their annual tournament for young hockey players in Rundu on August 8.

The announcement was made at the official handing over of N$11 000 to the hockey school at the offices of the Namibia Sports Commission (NSC).The competition is expected to attract boys and girls who are under the age groups of 12, 14, 16, and 18.At least 200 junior hockey players from the Kavango Region are expected to compete at the event, which is held in there each year. The tournament this year will involve 15 schools from the region and will be held at the Rundu Sports Complex.Director of the school, Erwin Handura explained that the event has a three-tier importance of which firstly it serves as a coaching clinic for all participants and coaches.It also awards the winning sides with trophies, medals and other prizes and it select players, from both the under 12 and 14 categories, to represent the region at the National Development Tournament which is held in Windhoek each year. The event is scheduled for September 12 this year.
