Boois is the junior chess champ

NAMIBIAN chess player Dantago Boois of the Zandell Chess Academy, won the second Bank Windhoek Namibia Junior National Closed Chess Championship at the weekend.

Boois is a learner at the Academia Secondary School and was initially coached by Candidate Master Charles Eichab. He defeated Fares Fani in round five and with that, turned the tide of the tournament in his favour. He had one hurdle to pass and succeeded when he defeated his last opponent Chez-Ray Allies of the Weekend Chess Academy in his last game. Boois was followed by Fani who scored 6/7. Fani admitted to the defeat, saying that he realised that his changes to clinch the title were almost gone. He however forgot about his loss and focused on his final encounter against Goodwill Khoa with the white pieces. Khoa played the solid Pirc Defence but sadly lost when two passed pawns of Fani were unstoppable. Khoa came third with 5.5/7. He made a mistake in his encounter against Julian Isaak of The Weekend Chess Academy and almost lost, but managed to fight back and secure a draw. In fourth place was Julian Isaak who lost only against Fani and drew against Khoa. Isaak is a definitely worth watching out for. Jolly Nepando a student of A. Shipena Secondary School, won the girls section of the event when she scored 4/7. She was followed by the young and focused Nicola Tjaronda also with 4/7 in second place and Patricia Teek in third place with 4/7. Only the progressive score separated the girls from each other, with Nepando scooping the title with the highest progressive score. Nepando was crowned the Girls Junior Champion of Namibia. The Namibia Chess Federation thanked Bank Windhoek for the N$5 000 sponsored towards this high-level chess event. The total sponsorship for junior chess tournaments for 2009 amounts to N$15 000.
