Erongo leaders hail Inside Erongo

This is the first edition of Inside Erongo, which marks the The Namibian’s dedication of focus pages to news from the Erongo Region. These focus pages will appear every two weeks in the newspaper on Tuesdays and aim to bring readers across the country ‘inside Erongo’.
The Namibian asked some regional leaders what their thoughts were on the initiative.

Samuel Nuuyoma, Erongo Region Governor ‘Information directly from the region and its communities to the rest of the Namibian people is very welcoming. Inside Erongo will educate and inform our nation and the world about us, and help Erongo truly become the mightiest region in the country. We have all the resources and offer much wealth and prosperity to investors, and now they’ll get to know about it in your new venture. I welcome it.’Germina Shitaleni, Swakopmund Mayor ‘The Swakopmund Town Council believes in mutual cooperation between ourselves and our development partners and we regard the media as a crucial partner and tool in the quest of information dissemination. We believe that there is so much more on offer in Swakopmund and we are regarded as the tourism Mecca of Namibia, this title should not only be obtained from our foreign visitors but from our local Namibian community as well.The Inside Erongo will play a vital role in reflecting what the various towns in Erongo are having in store for residents and visitors alike. The Namibian has become synonymous with ‘Telling it like it is’ and on behalf of the Swakopmund Municipal Council, residents and visitors, it is my wish that you will continue to tell the world like it is.’Kevin Adam, Walvis Bay Council Public Relations Manager ‘The Erongo Region has considerable wealth and opportunities to offer, and boasts the most substantial newspaper reading culture in Namibia, based on the last National Census, showing that 39% of Erongo inhabitants read newspapers, followed by Khomas (35.7%). It therefore makes perfect sense that The Namibian would launch something like Inside Erongo to add to its popularity. People want to read about themselves and will therefore look forward to seeing more local content. Wishing you all the best.’ Gisela Cramer, Henties Bay Mayor’An initiative like this in The Namibian is always a good idea for our town and for the region. People should know what’s going on in Henties Bay, so long as it’s not always negative, but positive too.
