On 19 July The Namibian published a report under the altered headline “UNDP encourages Govt to optimise development funds”. The initial headline was “United Nations criticises Govt’s development spending”. In the report we erroneously quoted the United Nations Development Programme resident representative Alka Bhatia criticising ministries’ fund management. Our report says president Nangolo Mbumba appeared unimpressed when Bhatia mentioned the amount of developmental aid contributed to the country. This may have misconstrued context and Bhatia’s and the UNDP’s intentions. In the same article, The Namibian had referenced the United Nations in general, it should in fact have been the UNDP. The Namibian sincerely regrets the mistake and apologises for any inconvenience this may have caused.
