Upcoming events as the seasons change

The days are getting longer, the flowers are primed to bloom and spring is around the corner! Now, there’s no excuse not to leave the house. And to help you do so more often, I’ve scoured the internet far and wide to curate this list of things to do.

Have a look, and don’t say I don’t ever do anything for you!The National Art Gallery of Namibia (NAGN) is currently celebrating the work of visual artist Trudi Dicks. Running until 14 September, the showcase features a selection of work from the NAGN Permanent Collection, Heritage Collection and private collections of Bill and Geoff Dicks.

The DHPS Bazaar takes place at 11 Church Street today from 11h00 to 21h00. Entrance is N$30 for children over the age of six, and N$50 for adults.

The Walvis Bay Municipality’s Night Market featuring seafood stalls, wine tasting, live performances and activities for kids takes place tomorrow.

Also tomorrow, the Tura Bootcamp takes place at Eros Primary School in Windhoek. Join the City of Windhoek for their fun fitness day.

This weekend, catch the Beach Soccer Cup at Swakopmund’s Platz am Meer from Friday to Sunday. The event will have food stalls alongside the tournament, as well as live entertainment.

On Sunday, catch Drag Night: Unplugged at Anna’s Kloovenburg. Tickets cost N$150 at the door from 17h00.

As usual you can learn to dance kizomba and semba at The Wine Bar and Restaurant or sing off key at Mynt Nightclub’s Karaoke Night every Wednesday.

Next Friday, the City of Windhoek will host a Spring Market at Droombos.

Also next Friday evening, catch Trap High School at Club Maya in Windhoek. Entrance is N$60.

For theatre lovers, Senga Brockerhoff will be screening her all female musical ‘Every Woman’ at The Village Opera House on Saturday, 31 August. Tickets cost N$80.Also on Saturday, 31 August, the House of Poulton Met Gala will be hosted by fashion designer Melissa Poulton at the Mercure Hotel. Tickets cost N$1 000 per person and N$15 000 per table. The theme is La Dolce Vita.

Pupkewitz Motors at Ongwediva will host a car meet on Saturday, 31 August. Join them for a battle of sound power, show and shine, and entertainment, as well as specials on new and used cars from 09h00 to 17h00.

Dunes Restaurant at Avani Hotel will be hosting a Secretary Day Lunch on Wednesday, 4 September. For N$350 per person, this celebration will include a welcoming drink, buffet, goodies and live entertainment.

Or you could spend the weekend of Friday, 6 September in a ‘Beeginner’ Beekeeping Class. Learn all about bees, breeding, harvesting and more over two or three days. Participation costs between N$2 400 and N$3 600 per person. Bookings close on 1 September.

Outdoor festivals are making a renaissance with the Iconic Music Fest on Saturday, 7 September at the Gustav Voigts Centre Parking Lot 6. This show will feature performances by South Africa’s Kwesta and Sir Trill, as well as Gazza, Lioness, KP Illest, DJ Alba Nalo, Azaria and more. Ticket prices range between N$250 and N$1 500.
