Swakopmund commemorated Heroes Day by recognising the town’s everyday heroes on Monday.
Furniture store Nictus Swakopmund organised a ‘cupcake run’ to honour the dedicated individuals who save lives every day: nurses, doctors, and firefighters.
Nictus delivered a combined 200 cupcakes to the Cottage Mediclinic emergency room and the Swakopmund Fire Brigade.
The gesture aimed to thank those who work tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of the public, often without recognition.
“When we think about heroes, we often picture fictional characters like Superman or Batman. But the real heroes are the ones who don’t wear capes – our nurses, doctors, and firefighters.
“They are here for us, for our survival, and they do their jobs with such kindness. We wanted to take this opportunity to appreciate them, to show them their efforts do not go unnoticed,” said Nictus Swakopmund branch manager Maria Brand.
The cupcakes, each adorned with the slogan ‘Not All Heroes Wear Capes’, brought smiles to the faces of the healthcare workers and firefighters.
Sister Charis van Eeden at Cottage Mediclinic said nursing is “a calling and a passion”.
“We do what we do because we feel called to help people. Even on public holidays like today, it’s a privilege to be able to serve. This initiative really makes us feel special, especially knowing people appreciate what we do. It’s nice to know while others enjoy their time off, we are thought of and recognised,” she said.
