A man accused of slapping a Swapo coordinator at Windhoek’s Mix settlement four months ago is free on warning after being arrested on an assault charge.
Moses Ndjene (46) made his first appearance in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court in Katutura on Tuesday, following his arrest the previous day.
Ndjene is facing a charge of assault, with the state accusing him of slapping Swapo branch coordinator Bonifatius Munango on the cheek at Mix settlement on 6 April.
The incident was captured in a cellphone video recording which went viral on social media.
During his court appearance before magistrate Rosalia Aihuki, Ndjene indicated that he intends to plead not guilty to the assault charge.
Aihuki postponed the case to 17 October for further investigations to be carried out.
Ndjene remains free on a warning to again appear in court on the scheduled date.
