A total of N$23 million has been earmarked to build 70 classrooms at 13 schools in the Ohangwena region.
The Directorate of Education, Arts and Culture in the region has budgeted this amount during the 2024/25 financial year.
This was revealed by regional governor Sebastian Ndeitunga during his state of the region address at Eenhana on Wednesday.
He said the directorate will also renovate 10 schools at a cost of N$7,1 million.
“During the year under review, the directorate received 15 classrooms, one science laboratory and one library donated through the Friends of Education Initiative, worth more than N$4 million,” he said.
The governor said through the Basic Education Facilities Strategy, four classrooms, a conversion of one classroom into a science laboratory, and two houses for teachers were completed at a cost of N$1,6 million.
This was contracted to August 26 Construction Company.
“Furthermore, through the Ministerial Emergency Classrooms Initiative, the directorate has constructed 42 classrooms and seven ablution facilities at seven schools, comprising of primary, combined and project schools,” he said.
Ndeitunga said the construction of the directorate of education’s regional office has been completed to the tune of N$64,8 million.
The directorate moved into new offices in May after 11 years and five months, putting an end to a monthly rental fee of N$400 000.
