The Frank Fredericks Foundation has awarded scholarships worth N$85 000 to athletes who excelled at the Namibia School Sport Union national athletics competition in May.
Foundation spokesperson Suama Shingenge says the scholarships were awarded at the end of August.
“The foundation is deeply rooted in providing support to young talented athletes and ensuring that it helps make their goals possible,” Shingenge says.
The scholarships were awarded to motivate the athletes in preparation for the World Junior Championships 2026, Shingenge adds.
Among the recipients are Julie-Ann Schuster from the Erongo region, who received a scholarship worth N$20 000 for having the fastest time in the girls 100m and 200m categories.
“For the 100m, she clocked the under-19 girls in 12,26 seconds and in the 200m, in a time of 25,64 seconds,” Shingenge notes.
Another recipient, Kambiri Kazaatjo from the Omaheke region, was awarded a N$10 000 scholarship for her victory in the girls 400m, where she attained the fastest time of 58,45 seconds.
Others recipients were Prince Gawaseb, Marten Nghililewanga, Auchamab Boy and Eshiko Paavo with N$10 000 each, and Mihescho Mouton and Isaaks Matt-Reece with N$5 000 each.
“The Frank Fredericks Foundation sees the potential and dedication of these athletes and wants to help make their goals possible. The foundation wishes it had the capacity and resources to help every athlete, however, we can only do it one athlete at a time,” says Shingenge.
In addition, this year the foundation awarded four scholarships worth N$40 000 between January and April, while the back to school programme received N$100 000, as well as competition travel grants valued at N$7 000, adds Shingenge.
