Namibia’s entertainment scene welcomes a new addition with the launch of ‘Nanub: The Heartbeat of the City’.
Created by Namibian creative artist Michael Namaseb, the reality series provides an inside look into his life, focusing on both his artistic career and personal experiences.
Namaseb has worked for nearly a decade to develop this series, which he describes as a significant personal project.
“It’s been a long journey to bring this idea to life,” he says.
The series aims to give viewers a detailed view of his creative process, the challenges he faces and his relationships with friends and family.
The show’s title, ‘Nanub: The Heartbeat of the City’, signifies change and growth. Namaseb explains that the series is meant to represent a new phase in Namibian entertainment, blending “growth, passion, love and entertainment.”
The idea for the web series originated from Michael’s desire to share the journey behind his art. According to him, he wanted to highlight how everyday life influences and is influenced by artistic work. Support from the Namibian Film Commission was crucial in realising this vision.
During production, Namaseb learned the importance of vulnerability.
“I allowed the series to show my life in an uncensored way,” he notes.
“One of the biggest challenges was balancing my regular artistic commitments with the demands of filming. We had to be very organised and flexible to capture the authentic moments while managing tight schedules.”
“Managing tight schedules while keeping the series authentic was a significant challenge,” he says.
‘Nanub: The Heartbeat of the City’ aims to offer viewers an understanding of the Namibian art scene and inspire them to pursue their own passions.
“I hope viewers come away with a deeper appreciation for the arts and the people behind it. My goal is for them to see the hard work, dedication and personal stories that drive creative endeavours. I also want them to feel inspired and perhaps find parallels in their own lives, whether they’re artists or simply pursuing their passions,” he concludes.
The web series is set to debut on 2 October on YouTube. – unWrap.online
