IUM launches Russian language centre

The International University of Management (IUM) launched a Russian language centre in Windhoek on 25 August.

IUM director of marketing, communications and stakeholder engagement Gerry Munyama said after an intensive advertising campaign conducted from 25 July to 25 August, 1 380 applications were received to learn Russian at the centre.

Over 300 participants were selected.

According to a recent statement from IUM, the rigorous selection process focused on applicants with strong motivations and ensured gender balance.

Russian Perm State Humanitarian Pedagogical University rector Konstantin Egorov emphasised the importance of learning Russian, noting that it is the sixth official language of the United Nations, spoken by over 300 million people worldwide.

Egorov stressed that proficiency in Russian would provide Namibians with significant opportunities to pursue higher education in Russian universities.
