The Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture has decided to close schools on the 22nd of November due to the national elections being held this year.
This directive has been communicated by the ministry to all regional directors, education inspectors, principals, school board members, and parents.
The ministry has also said that all schools must compensate for eight school days in close cooperation with the school community and under the supervision of inspectors and principals.
“Schools and hostels will be closed for the Presidential and National Assembly elections on 27 November. The last day for teachers, hostel staff, and institutional workers is 6 December, and school reports should be issued to learners by this date.
“We call on all regional directors, inspectors of education, principals, school board members, parents, and stakeholders to note this change in the school calendar,” says ministry executive director Sanet Steenkamp.
