The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, alongside its partners, Salt Essential IT, launched the isecure website on Wednesday.
The website will aid in the fight against cybersecurity threats such as hacking, fraud, and phishing and was launched on the final day of the National Information and Communication Technology Summit 2024 in Windhoek.
During the summit last year, the ministry launched a WhatsApp chatbot that is featured on the website to help guide users on the interface.
The chatbot and the website aim to raise awareness about the dangers of cybercrime, with a specific focus on Namibia.
The website was launched by the information ministry, the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia, the Bank of Namibia, Salt Essential IT, LifeLine Childline, and various media partners.
The summit kicked off on Monday.
Ministry deputy director of IT infrastructure Fillemon Johannes says they came up with the idea and called on public and private investors to aid in bringing the idea to realisation.
“This started as an initiative of the ministry to do something in the space of cybersecurity, and with that came the development of the National Cybersecurity Strategy,” Johannes says.
