The National Unity Democratic Organisation (Nudo) is taking legal action against the leading figures of a Nudo splinter group.
The party’s lawyer, Kadhila Amoomo, filed a lawsuit in the High Court against Barry Rukoro and six other individuals on Wednesday.
The other defendants are Kapukatua Kuvare, Tjizapouzeu Uahupirapi, Usiel Tjiho, Kavee Rijatuna, J Muesee and Den Maekopo.
Court documents seen by The Namibian show that Nudo is accusing Rukoro and the other defendants of holding an illegal congress during which they were elected as leaders of the party.
Nudo is asking the court to order Rukoro and the other defendants not to hold themselves out as occupying leadership positions in the party.
Nudo is also asking the court to issue an interdict stopping Rukoro and the other defendants from interfering with the management, leadership and control of the party, and to order them not to use an alleged fake Nudo letterhead.
The defendants are expected to file their intention to defend within the next 10 days.
Amoomo said failure to do so could result in the court imposing deadlines and proceeding without their input.
Rukoro and his splinter group have been involved in a succession drama with Nudo’s incumbent president, Ester Muinjangue, and secretary general Joseph Kauandenge for months.
The situation escalated when Rukoro’s splinter group held a congress on Saturday, during which Rukoro was elected as Nudo’s president.
