Kavango Super Cup sequel deferred 

The much-anticipated Kavango Super Cup Festival’s second phase that was scheduled to begin last week has been postponed.

XPTS International, the tournament’s official sponsor, informed organisers that unspecified unforeseen circumstances prevented the event from proceeding as planned.

Despite the postponement, XPTS reaffirmed its commitment with a four-year sponsorship deal, from 2024 to 2027, set to launch after this year’s football final.

The organisers are now looking to reschedule the event to either October or December.

“We sincerely apologise for the disruption but are committed to the success and growth of this significant regional event,” says XPTS International chief executive Sebastião Sermão.

Tournament spokesperson Rosvitha Ghunonga, reacting to the news, says they do not take it in a bad light at all.

“It’s a good thing for us, because now we can plan even better and it gives us an opportunity to add even different sport codes because there is an increase in the sponsorship,” she explains.

PHASE 1

The first phase wrapped up recently, with women’s football and netball in action.

In the women’s football section, 21 Brigade B claimed victory, with African Stars Queens securing second place, 21 Brigade A finishing third, and Bright Star United taking fourth.

Katjiveri Antonette from African Star Queens was named best goalkeeper, Brave Gladiators star Memory Ngonda, who featured for Stars, was awarded player of the tournament, and Rooi Iyaalo of 21 Brigade B took the top scorer prize.

Meanwhile, Unam B were victors in the netball competition, followed by Unam Ogongo in second place and Cuca Tops in third.

Feni Pali from Unam Ogongo earned the best shooter title, as Cuca Tops’ Alvisia Kamwanga was awarded best mid-court player, and Melita Hunga from Ogongo was named player of the tournament.
