Katutura residents are demanding urgent government action on a series of unresolved issues that have left Katutura in crisis.
The chairperson of the Katutura Residents Committee, Benetus Kandudu, and community activists on Wednesday raised their voices ahead of the upcoming elections.
Kandudu was demanding answers from the minister of urban and rural development, Erastus Uutoni.
“We have given them ample time, since June last year, and now we are demanding answers. They should answer us before we decide who to vote for,” he said.
He said the committee’s key demands are debt write-offs, the introduction of prepaid water and electricity meters, and the elimination of RedForce Debt Management has been ignored.
“We have followed reasonable, law-abiding steps to seek greater understanding for our circumstances and to obtain a fair outcome,” Kandudu said in a statement.
The Namibian has observed frustration boiling over as the urban ministry’s minister’s personal assistant, Asser Haradoeb, calmed am angry crowd in Windhoek.
Haradoeb advised the committee to book an appointment with the minister to get their response.
“The minister is currently in a long meeting, but I would advise that you set a meeting, because the visit found us unprepared,” he advised.
