ECN to comply with NEFF judgement on deregistration

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) says it will comply with the High Court judgement to overturn its decision to deregister the Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF).

The court ruled that the commission’s decision was unlawful and the ECN was ordered to pay the NEFF’s legal costs.

The commission on Monday issued a press statement on their position since the judgement.

“The commission will comply with High Court decision and will yield to its guidance in implementing the [Electoral] Act,” it reads.

The commission met with NEFF and indicated its position on the matter.

“In the said meeting, the NEFF undertook to heed to the commission’s resoluteness to enforce compliance with peremptory provisions of the Electoral Act,” it reads.
