‘Hunger, poverty consequences of poor governance’ says presidential candidate Swartbooi

Landless People’s Movement leader and presidential candidate Bernadus Swartbooi says hunger and poverty are a function and consequences of poor governance.

He made these remarks during the party’s manifesto launch at Rundu, in the Kavango East region over the weekend.

“Some of those that have created this human catastrophe are boldly stating on public that hunger should not be politicised, but how?” Swartbooi questioned.

“Governing society is a political process achieved through political victories by a political formation which is given the mandate to administer the affairs of society, including state resources,” Swartbooi noted.

He said the misadministration of public resources is not invigorating society out of poverty.

“Where are the resources of society that you have been given to redistribute to improve lives? What are those resources utilised for, that people are this poor and hungry?” Swartbooi said.

Swartbooi promised to implement youth leadership training with the International Leadership Foundations to enhance Namibia’s ability to project in a competitive world.

“This programme will target 500 youths per year . . . connecting youth with internships and jobs affiliations to grow youth capability at every possible level of society and economic activity,” Swartbooi said.

During the party manifesto launch, Swartbooi said if elected, LPM will set up a citizens national council on natural resource protection, with a mandate to initiate legal proceedings against public officials for resources mismanagement.
