Social Security Commission (SSC), in partnership with the National Youth Service (NYS), handed over poultry and irrigation projects at Rietfontein last week.
The projects were launched to address unemployment and skills development, benefitting 45 unemployed Namibians since 2021.
SSC chief executive Milka Mungunda said the projects symbolise the beginning of a new chapter for the beneficiaries and the communities that will benefit from these enterprises.
“Today, after three years of hard work, dedication, and teamwork, we are here to celebrate the fruits of this initiative.
“Through the training scheme, supported by an allocation of N$5 002 162, we have achieved remarkable milestones. We have successfully trained 45 unemployed Namibians in three critical areas which are agriculture, livestock husbandry, horticulture and crop production, and metal fabrication here at the NYS’ Rietfontein centre,” she said.
Mungunda said these programmes provided essential skills to the youth, equipping them with the knowledge needed to succeed in the job market and venture into entrepreneurship,.
Mungunda said the initiatives are expected to create sustainable livelihoods and job opportunities.
“I am proud to say that the outcomes of this initiative have exceeded our expectations. Today, we celebrate not only those who have gained new skills but also those who will become job creators and entrepreneurs, contributing to the growth of our economy, and enhancing food security,” she said.
