The film ‘Wish for Death’, which was shot in the Dâures constituency of the Erongo region, was screened in front of a local crowd at Okombahe on Friday.
The screening was attended by a diverse group of film lovers eager to revisit the scenic location that was integral to the film’s plot.
Screened in collaboration with MultiChoice Namibia, ‘Wish for Death’ was showcased during a From the Ground Up (FTGU) community dialogue, organised by Rural Rise Community Empowerment.
“We believe it resonated deeply with our audience because it was shot in the Dâures area and addresses various themes of the FTGU initiative,” said Rural Rise Community Empowerment founder Eslien Tsuses.
“The film’s powerful narrative is consistent with the themes we were discussing.”
According to Tsuses, the event was a success and the audience felt a genuine connection to the film.
“The story’s message resonated deeply with them, and it was special to see their familiar landscapes on screen. They were particularly moved by the poignant conclusion,” she said.
Directed by Errol Geingob, the film revolves around a struggling farmer and the difficulties his family faces as his son’s epilepsy worsens.
The discovery of a diamond at the settlement inspires hope, but it also brings death and unexpected consequences.
Many in the audience personally witnessed the filming, with some having participated as extras or offering logistical support to the production crew.
“Seeing our town on the big screen feels like a dream come true,” said one attendee.
As the credits began to roll and the audience erupted in cheers, it was clear that ‘Wish for Death’ had left an impression not only on screen, but also on the community that helped make it possible.
