National Unity Democratic Organisation (Nudo) president Esther Muinjangue says she will not return as the party’s president.
“Come the elective congress in March 2025, I will be stepping down. I won’t be taking part in this electoral college,” said Muinjangue at Nudo’s third elective college in Windhoek on Saturday.
The electoral college determines the party’s members who will become members of parliament, according to the number of seats Nudo obtains during the upcoming elections.
Muinjangue said over 200 members from the constituencies attended the electoral college.
According to Muinjangue, with 53 days until the elections, Nudo should use the elective congress to obtain positive results.
“I am positive that we can get more than two seats in the parliament if we do well in November,” she said.
Nudo secretary general Joseph Kauandenge said Muinjangue stepping down does not mean the party will elect a non-Otjiherero-speaking president.
“We haven’t pronounced as a party who we prefer as a presidential candidate, perhaps they will pronounce that in the electoral college,” Kauandenge said.
