Three women raped over weekend

Three women were raped over the weekend.

A woman (50) was allegedly raped by an unidentified man at Okoutjove, Otjombinde, on Friday.

According to police spokesperson Kauna Shikwambi, the victim allegedly woke up to someone touching her. She then informed the suspect to get out and go sleep in another shack, but he refused.

“The suspect was found sleeping next to the victim, after raping her, by the victims’ son when he arrived at around 04h00. A fight erupted between the victim’s son and the suspect,” Shikwambi says.

She adds that the suspect fled the scene and has not yet been arrested, but he is well-known to the victim.

Shikwambi says police investigations are ongoing.

In a separate incident, an 18-year-old man was arrested on Friday, after he allegedly raped a 22-year-old woman at farm Okatjikurunda, in the Ovitoto area.

“The suspect was arrested after it was alleged that he unlawfully and intentionally had sexual intercourse with the victim without her consent after threatening to stab her with a knife,” Shikwambi says.

She adds that the suspect is the nephew of the victim.

“The suspect will be charged and appear in the Okahandja Magistrate’s Court. Police investigation continue,” Shikwambi says.

At Gcamade village, in the Kavango West region, it is alleged that a 15-years-old male suspect had sexual intercourse with a 12-year-old girl.

“The suspect is known but not yet arrested. Police investigations continue,” Shikwambi says.
