A SIGNIFICANT logistical endeavour is currently unfolding as one of the largest freight transports ever seen on Namibian roads makes its way to a Zambian mine.
The oversized cargo of about 80 metres long, a specialised ‘cooler box’, is part of the processing plant equipment, according to local agents AGL Global Logistics’ Sally Mieny.
The cooler box is designed to regulate the temperature of machinery and electrical systems used in high-temperature environments typical in copper mining.
“This is one of the longest and heaviest transports we’ve managed on Namibia’s roads,” says Mieny.
“The equipment is essential for maintaining optimal temperatures in the mine’s processing plant.”
Originating from Europe, the shipment is expected to take approximately three weeks to reach its final destination in Zambia.
The freight is now on its way, having cleared local checkpoints.
