RDP’s Mike Kavekotora declares himself true party leader; says Nehova is mentally unstable

The Rally for Democracy and Progress’ presidential candidate, Mike Kavekotora, says he is the right candidate to lead the party, adding that his rival, Kandy Nehova, is too mentally unstable to do so.

Kavekotora says the party cannot be led by someone who is not a party member and does not seem to understand politics.

He said this during the party’s manifesto launch at Ongwediva on Saturday.

“I understand that Nehova is planning to challenge us after he lost the previous court case. As far as the RDP is concerned, Nehova is not a party member nor a presidential candidate of the RDP.

“He must move on. I think he needs some sort of psychological help . . . We have submitted everything to the Electoral Commission of Namibia. We cannot allow this party and the party’s mission to be destroyed by someone who does not have any idea on how to run a party,” he said.

Kavekotora called Nehova an opportunist who is likely to lose all his assets to settle court cases.

“I really feel pity for him, because he is fighting a battle he will never win . . . I am the rightful candidate for this party, and no one else,” he said.

Nehova and Kavekotora have been leading rival factions of the party since 2019, when Kavekotora was elected as RDP president, before Nehova was also elected as party president at a rival convention.

Nehova said he is the rightful party presidential candidate and would soon launch his own manifesto.

“Kavekotora is misleading the nation, and he is not the party’s presidential candidate. He is confused . . . Everyone knows I am the party’s rightful presidential candidate,” he said.
