Swakopmund hosted the Namibian Gymnastics National Competition at the MTC Dome on Saturday, bringing together 145 artistic and aerobic gymnasts from across the country.

The event, jointly organised by the Swakopmund Gymnastics Club and the Dongina Risser Gymnastics Foundation, marked the final event of the gymnastics season, following two earlier qualifying rounds.

“The event was crucial for the gymnasts to see how they’ve progressed, but also to experience the camaraderie of competing together. The highlight was undoubtedly the participation of two new clubs from Ondangwa and Oshikango, who despite limited resources, showed immense determination,” says Swakopmund Gymnastics Club head coach and organiser of the competition Dione Dichtle.

“These teams train on interlocking mats and blankets, yet they competed in three out of four apparatus events for girls, and even managed to medal. Their dedication is truly inspiring. We were fortunate to have help from friends around the world, who assisted in organising transport so they could attend this competition,” Dichtle says.

Trophy winners for the girls were Anna Dörenhoff (level 7), Helvi Kambonde (level 6), Nicky Raaths (level 5), Jenne-Lee Marsh (level 4), Tiana Le Roux (level 3), Maja Venter (level 2) and Aaliyah English (level 1).

Trophy winners for the boys were Dantago Horaeb (level 6), Whitlynn Cloete (level 5), Ryan Samarai-Truter (level 4), Moses Hamukonda (level 3) and Jozua Kunert (level 1).
