Events this weekend and beyond

The entertainment scene is buzzing, and the closer we get to the festive season, the more saturated our calendar becomes. This week, we have some networking events, real good braai meat, burgers and loaded fries, visual art exhibitions, and even something the kiddies can enjoy. The best part, of course, is that this roundup is littered with free and affordable activities, starting this weekend.

Friday

CcHub Namibia is hosting the Creative Mixer 3.0 in Windhoek this weekend from 17h30. Register online to mingle with like-minded individuals.

Climate justice advocate, artist, and educator Ina Maria Shikongo will launch her first solo art exhibition, ‘Echoes Of Resistance: The Power Of My Voice’ at The Project Room at Julius Nyerere Street from 18h00.

Saturday

Poets, musicians and comedians seeking a platform for creative expression are welcome to take the stage at Vinyls’ Open Mic Night this weekend from 14h30. Registration costs N$30.

This Saturday is the final edition of the Dr Hage Geingob Cup at Independence Stadium. The sporting event will cost N$30 per person and will have live musical performances by the likes of DJ Vuyo, Tate Buti, Latoya Stella, Sunny Boy, ACM Entertainment and others.

Join Wolfshack for their version of Oktoberfest at their new venue at Werner List Street in Windhoek. There will be drinks, food and music. Entry is free.
Next Week

The Museums Association of Namibia will open the ‘New Exhibitions & Fashion Show’ at the Museum of Namibian Fashion at Otjiwarongo on 22 October from 15h00. Entry is free and refreshments will be served.

Join Johan Jooste’s beginner photography workshop next weekend at The Village Garden in Windhoek. Limited slots cost N$2 095 per person and 50% deposit is required.

On 26 October, there’s a Meat & Wine Festival at the Windhoek Country Club, Resort and Casino from 16h00. Tickets start at N$250 for gourmet meat sampling, wine pairing, live music and entertainment, food and drink stalls, cooking demonstrations and talks by industry experts.

Hermosa Mimosa, a networking event aimed at inspiring and empowering women working in the medical field, is happening at Hilton Hotel in Windhoek on the 27th. Doors open from 11h00 and tickets start at N$100.

Wednesdays and Fridays, Kiki’s Bar and Carwash has a burger and loaded fries special at the corner of Shanghai and Andrew Mogalie Street at Shandumbala.

There are art and dance classes for girls and boys aged seven to 14 at the Okahandja Tennis Court every Wednesday, for N$200 a month. Kids can learn about graphics, photography, design, dance, videography and drama courtesy of the Elevation Arts and Sports Network.

Don’t suffer in silence. If you think it’s time, join a substance abuse support group every Thursday from 18h00, hosted free of charge by Saffron Psychological Services at the CCN Building at Eros.

Once a week, sit down for Mimosa and Oyster Sundays at Luxe Lounge from 14h00 to 21h00, with music by DJ Butterglow and DJ Hifen.

Beyond 28

The Wine Shop is going on a tour with their 2024 Wine Tasting Roadshow from 29 October at Iris Boutique Hotel at Walvis Bay. Tickets are N$250, which entitles you to a wine glass and a charcuterie platter. Other tour stops will be at Artemis Hotel at Swakopmund on the 30th, and at The Wine Shop in Windhoek on 1 November and at The Village Garden on 2 November.

Chill Hub is bringing Swazi DJ and record producer Uncle Waffles to Windhoek as part of her ‘We Love Waffles’ tour. On 23 November, catch the internationally renowned artist alongside other guests still to be announced.
