PDM to protest against ECN ballot printing tender

Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) leader McHenry Venaani says PDM will take to the streets of Windhoek on Tuesday, 22 October.

This is to to protest against the Electoral Commission of Namibia’s (ECN’s) recent ballot tender allocation

ECN awarded the ballot printing tender to controversial South African Ren-Form who are accused of being embroiled in a N$570 million corruption scandal in Zimbabwe.

“On Tuesday, 22 October 2024, PDM will lead a march for our democracy in Windhoek. We call on all Namibians to join us in standing up against this brazen attempt to undermine our democratic process,” Venaani says.

Venaani made these remarks during a rally held at Keetmanshoop on Saturday, where he said if no action is taken, PDM will take the matter to court.

“And if the ECN fails to act, we will take them to the High Court of Namibia. Let me be clear: the PDM will not take this lying down,” he said.

While other opposition parties, including the Landless People’s Movement, the Independent Patriots for Change and the Rally for Democracy and Progress echo Venaani’s sentiments, the ruling party have distanced themselves from the matter, with deputy secretary general Uahekua Herunga on Friday telling The Namibian the party does not want to be accused of influencing the ECN’s decisions.
