Opposition parties struggle with media coverage, presidential candidates unknown

Presidential candidates of opposition political parties are struggling to get media coverage.

This was said by the media monitoring project lead consultant, Christie Keulder, on Tuesday in Windhoek.

“Nobody is selling these candidates to us and I think this is a problem. We don’t have presidential debates where we can engage with them. I think it is a problem for voters to be able to learn about this,” he said.

He said political parties lack media strategies to market their candidates to the electorate.

Keulder was presenting a report on the media coverage for the upcoming elections.

The Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters presidential candidate has not received any coverage between August and September.

“There’s a problem with the opposition in that sense. If they lack the capacity, whether it’s human resources, financial resources, or something else, how will most Namibians learn about their message?” Keulder asked.

The Swapo presidential candidate, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, has received the most media coverage, followed by Popular Democratic Movement leader McHenry Venaani.
