The University of Namibia (Unam) is the only Namibian university to have been ranked by Times Higher Education, ranking 24th out of 2 500 universities across Africa.
This is according to Unam vice chancellor Kenneth Matengu.
He was speaking at the state of the university address at their Noordhoek southern campus at Keetmanshoop.
“We are the only institution in the country who has been ranked by Times Higher Education,” Matengu said.
According to Matengu, Unam has graduated over 50 000 students countrywide, with the main campus and the Oshakati campus having graduated the most students to date.
EMPLOYMENT CREATION
He said the notion that universities create employment is false. He said a university is there to produce employable citizens of society.
“Employment creation is not a mandate for universities,” Matengu said.
