Swapo deputy secretary general Uahekua Herunga says the party’s vice president and presidential candidate Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is in good health and did not collapse at an election campaign meeting over the weekend.
This follows claims on social media that there was a medical emergency involving Nandi-Ndaitwah while she was addressing a Swapo campaign meeting at Otjiwarongo on Saturday.
Nandi-Ndaitwah is Swapo’s candidate in the presidential election on 27 November.
“Our candidate is not sick,” Herunga told The Namibian on Sunday.
“She is in excellent health and in good spirits. You have seen on your television that she addressed the rally at Otjiwarongo,” Herunga said.
He also said claims that Nandi-Ndaitwah is not feeling well are coming from rumour-mongers.
Meanwhile, Affirmative Respositiining leader Job Amupanda accused Swapo on social media of “parading a 72-year-old grandmother every second day and making her walk around stadiums, making her dance, while exposed to loud music in her 72-year-old ears, and requiring her to shout slogans and delivering speeches standing for more than an hour”.
Amupanda added: “In the meantime, their grandmothers are resting at home.
“Why are they surprised that she collapsed in the middle of her speech as we understand?” he remarked
