New Era editor resigns

Jonathan Beukes

New Era editor Jonathan Beukes and New Era Publication Corporation (NEPC) agreed on a mutual separation last week.

Beukes has served as New Era’s managing editor for about four years.

The Namibian has been informed that Beukes left the newspaper last week.

Beukes was suspended in October 2023 after New Era published reports questioning the transparency of the judiciary in appointing judges.

New Era chief executive Christof Maletsky could not be reached telephonically yesterday, while Beukes did not respond to a text message sent to him. NEPC chairperson Edwin Tjiramba was also not reachable for comment yesterday. The Namibian last year reported that former minister of information and communication technology Peya Mushelenga and his executive director, Audrin Mathe, played a role in Beukes’ suspension.

Both denied any wrongdoing.
