Hosting the 2024 Africa Netball Cup will elevate Namibia’s profile, says Namibia Sport Commission chief administrator Freddy Mwiya.
According to the organisers, the competition will be held in Swakopmund from 9 to 14 December.
Mwiya met with Netball Namibia leaders yesterday, who informed the Sport Commission that the Land of the Brave had won the bid to host Africa’s premier netball tournament.
“This prestigious event is expected to attract over ten countries, featuring both male and female netball teams, marking a historic moment for the nation as it introduces its first male netball team and prepares to hold trials this weekend in Windhoek,” Mwiya said.
Mwiya expressed the commission’s support and congratulated Netball Namibia “for securing the bid to host this important tournament.”
The significance of the event is “not only for the sports industry but also for its potential impact on social and economic growth in Namibia,” Mwiya added.
“The commission reaffirms its commitment to fostering the development of sports in the country by supporting federations in their initiatives,” he said.
