It’s spooky season with Halloween celebrations this weekend, so expect to see some ghosts and ghouls while you’re out and about.

If that’s not your vibe, there are local film screenings, a French restaurant launching, a sunset party and even some activities for the children. Whatever you are into, even if it’s strolling through a Sunday market or singing off-key to a room full of strangers, we got you.

Thursday

Roger Rafael’s epic saga ‘Ompata’ continues with the sequel ‘The Beginning’s End’ premiering tonight at the Ster Kinekor movie theatre at Grove Mall for N$150. It features an ensemble cast including Dorian Mario, Khadijah Mouton, Woudré Tune, Karishma Isaacs, Faustino Paulus, Etienne Naruseb, Dawie Engelbrecht, and Mervin ‘Cheese’ Uahupirapi.

Doors open at 19h30 for a 20h00 showtime.

The Women’s Leadership Centre is celebrating 20 years of feminist leadership, activism and movement building at the Goethe-Institut in Windhoek with cultural performances by groups representing the Zambezi region, the San tribe and the lsebian community. Entry is free.

The Franco Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC) presents ‘Ehi/Land/Sand Rites/Rights’, an exhibition by Kay Cowley in collaboration with Tuaovisiua Katuuo, Prince Marenga, Gotti Riruako and Unotjari Mupurua. It will start at 19h00 and be available for viewing till 8 November.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday

Musical legends Oteya and Snazzy will take the stage at the Goethe-Institut’s monthly live music show ‘Night Under The Stars’ this Friday. Gates open from 18h00 for N$50.

Eagles Avis is “bringing life to the city” with First Fridays Sunset Mix by various DJs including Slay J and YD Fresh this Friday for N$80. Come through from 17h00.

The Wine Shop is on a tour with their 2024 ‘Wine Tasting Roadshow’. The next stops are at The Wine Shop in Windhoek this Friday and at The Village Garden on Saturday.

It’s quarter to December at Kiki’s Korner on Saturday, 2 November. Come through to the corner of Shanghai and Andrew Mogalie Street at Shandumbala for food, drinks and music by DJs Shoza and Tumi Mohamed, with a special appearance by DJ Steven The Legend. Entry is N$30.

The Namibian Comedy Festival will host a screening of some funny local films at the Old Breweries Courtyard from 15h30 this Saturday. Tickets cost N$30.

Le Roof Restaurant at the FNCC is hosting their grand opening this Saturday night from 18h00. There will be live performances by Riaan Smit, Golda and Karabo. Entry is free.

Put on a scary mask and head to Tipsy Rabbit Hole’s ‘Halloween Costume Party’ on Saturday. Best dressed wins N$500.

Next Week

On Wednesday 6 November, the Speakeasy is hosting Ladies Night in collaboration with Drag Night Namibia under the theme: ‘Mothers, Just Show Up!’ It will be hosted by Miss Mavis Dash. Tickets cost N$100 and there will be a special appearance by Lize Ehlers.

Recurring

Sing as loud and as off-key as you want at karaoke: Wednesdays at Mynt Nightclub, Thursdays at Tipsy Rabbit Hole, or Saturdays at Isabel’s Table.

Girls and boys between the ages of 7 and 14 can join art and dance classes at the Okahandja Tennis Court on Wednesdays for N$200 a month. Children can learn about graphics, photography, design, dance, videography and drama.

There is a weekly substance abuse support group on Thursdays from 18h00 at the CCN Building at Eros. These sessions are hosted free of charge by Saffron Psychological Services.

Every week is the Sunday Market at the Village Garden from 09h00 to 15h00. There are stalls, kiddies’ activities, live music, food and drinks.

Beyond

Catch the third edition of the Yenda Summer Festival on 7 December, at Katima Mulilo, featuring various local acts including the dynamic trio PDK. Tickets will be N$80 in advance and N$100 at the door.
