Controversial wig business announces closure, apologises to Namra

The Windhoek-based wig business accused of failing to deliver hair to clients has announced its closure.

Belv Hair owner Belvana Edward in a statement on Thursday issued an apology to the Namibia Revenue Agency (Namra) and announced the closure of the business.Edward initially blamed Namra after delays in the delivery of wigs to clients were exposed.

Edward says she is working on issuing refunds to all affected 190 customers, between 1 November and 30 December.

“I would like to apologise to Namra for false allegations, and for the recent delays in delivering your hair orders and poor communication skills,” she says in the statement.

Namra chief executive Sam Shivute denied allegations that Namra was behind the delay of the businesswoman’s hair shipment in a Facebook post on Monday.

“If there is any truth in this narrative, the businesswoman must bring the matter to the attention of the head of customs and excise,” he wrote.
Edward alleged that the delay was due to misinformation by an associate who is responsible for shipping her parcels.

“I had failed to understand that many of you were counting on Belv Hair and I deeply regret any inconvenience this may have caused, and the terrible experience. I take full accountability for my actions.

“I recognise that I didn’t communicate these issues effectively. I take full responsibility and accountability for this lack of communication and poor customer service,” she says.

“The road of Belv Hair has officially come to an end. Belv Hair will be discontinued after all the refunds are sent out,” Edward adds.
