Man kills wife, ends own life in collision

A man allegedly slit his wife’s throat with a knife before ending his own life by driving into an oncoming truck near Keetmanshoop in the //Karas region on Tuesday.

The suspect has been identified as Munyaradzi Kingstone Pintura (44) a Zimbabwean national, while the victim is Lentina Pintura (32), a resident of Ileni location at Keetmanshoop. The incident happened between 04h00 and 05h00.

Namibian Police spokesperson chief inspector Elifas Kuwinga confirmed the incident later the same day, saying both individuals were declared dead at the scene.

“It is alleged that the couple had a marital misunderstanding about the wife not sleeping at home, and the husband had been looking for her,” said Kuwinga.

He also said she was allegedly found at a relative’s house drinking.

He said the husband loaded the wife into his vehicle to take her to the hospital after allegedly slitting her throat. En route, he realised his wife had died. He then drove into an oncoming truck, allegedly with the aim of taking his own life.

The incident happened on the Keetmanshoop-Tses road, about 22 km from the B1 highway.

The three occupants of the truck sustained moderate to serious injuries, said Kuwinga.

“Preliminary investigation suggests that the [victims’] pick-up drove into the lane of an oncoming truck, resulting in a head-on collision,” Kuwinga noted.

He further said the next of kin of both deceased persons have been informed, and the bodies were transported to the Keetmanshoop mortuary pending autopsy.

Police investigation continues.
