Lawyer and Swapo central committee member Sisa Namandje says the party would not need to share power after this year’s elections as it will win.
He says South Africa’s and Botswana’s ruling party election defeats will not affect Namibia’s liberation movement’s chances of winning.
Namandje said this during a Swapo mini star rally at Ondangwa on Saturday.
“Swapo will win the elections and there will be no government of national unity because what happened to South Africa and Botswana will not happen here in Namibia. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah will be president elect come 27 November,” he said.
Namandje said that under Nandi-Ndaitwah’s administration, Swapo will confront the high unemployment rate among the local youth and “drive the country’s spirit to allow people to create jobs themselves”.
He urged party members and sympathisers to vote hard for Nandi-Ndaitwah, saying they must campaign “aggressively” to attain a two-thirds majority rule.
“We must ensure her government works for the people and protects the party from destructive forces. Do not be destracted by the gossip in the streets that our candidate is old and whatever. Swapo will win the elections – come rain or shine,” Namandje said.
Retired lieutenant general Martin Shalli at the event said: “When you enter the ballot box, our candidate is clearly visible, because she is the only woman on the list. Even if you forget her name, the face will show because she is standing out from the rest.”
