The Christian Democratic Voice Party (CDV) president, Gotthard Kandume, has denied withdrawing the party’s money, saying the allegation is nonsense
“I’m busy with the campaign, and I do not have time to deal with this nonsense,” he says.
“I will sue the people involved in these allegations. Kadhila Amoomo is ready for that case.”
“I’m the one paying for the party out of my own pocket, covering all the legal costs. I don’t have time for nonsense; I’m busy with serious business. My lawyer will respond to those allegations,” Kandume says.
This comes after the party’s secretary-general, Hans Stramiss, said the party opened a fraud case against Kandume last Thursday for allegedly withdrawing N$180 000 from the party’s bank account.
According to Kandume, the allegations are false.
“I was never suspended. I have never taken any money. I’m not dealing with the party funds; it is not true. They opened a case against me, and I was called by the police. They have closed the case because there is no evidence,” he says.
He adds that he is more focused on his campaign and he is acting for the good of the party.
“Where were the people when I was suffering for this party? They are not even recognised by the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN). They wanted to bury me alive. I’m doing what’s good for the party. We will meet each other in court. I will sue The Namibian as well,” he says.
Kandume says he never received any letter of suspension.
“l don’t know about the letter,” he says.
The party was in the news this year after the ECN cancelled the registration of the CDV and the Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters on 13 June this year, after both parties failed to submit audited financial statements to the ECN as required in terms of the Electoral Act.
