The Ministry of Information and Communication technology says former New Era managing editor Johnathan Beukes left the company on a mutual separation agreement.
The ministry had earlier said Beukes was dismissed.
The ministry released a statement remedying their earlier miscommunication and emphasised that their contact with public enterprises ends with the board and at policy level.
“There are processes, systems and procedures that are followed and the authorities vested with these powers. Therefore, the ministry would like to make it clear that it does not interfere in the internal affairs of New Era Publication Corporation,” the statement reads.
The ministry said government funded media houses operate under self-regulation.
The ministry further highlighted Namibia’s “strong position in the Press Freedom Index”, ranking second in Africa and 34th globally.
Beukes announced his departure from the state-owned media house earlier this week.
