Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) leader Panduleni Itula says he was never a functionary member of Swapo, nor did he have a party membership card.
Itula said this in an interview with SABC News on Monday.
“In March 2020, they expelled me from the Swapo party but l never had a membership card of the Swapo party. l was never a functionary in the Swapo government to start with, and neither any of its structures,” he said.
Itula emphasised that the Swapo that liberated Namibia is not the same as the party that is currently governing Namibia.
“They have lost vision completely. In 2019 is when l decided to stand as an independent presidential candidate in the elections. That is when l parted company with the idea of having to betray the people of Namibia for what we stood for – solidarity, unity and the freedoms, including the freedom to have a job, to own a house… to have a life. And that has been completely disregarded, people started looking after their own bellies, while forgetting that people are suffering,” he added.
Itula noted that his role in Swapo ended at independence.
“I participated with nothing whatsoever to do with governing Namibia or the administration of the Swapo party. My role ended at independence, as it were, when we had freedom of association.”
