Ngandu TV, the production arm of Ngandu Events, unveiled the latest episode of its flagship music show, ‘Rock The Boat’, in a private premiere at the Franco Namibian Cultural Centre last week.
Featuring award-winning DJ Vuyo, the episode, shot on the Kavango River in August, brings a fresh dose of Namibia’s unique musical talent and riverside landscapes.
Invited guests at the premiere not only watched the episode but were treated to a live podcast hosted by media personality and director Maria Nepembe.
Nepembe facilitated a conversation with the show’s core creative team, including executive producer Andreas Gustav, stylist and stage designer Nahenda Matheus, and series director Rubben Mabuku.
The panel shared behind-the-scenes details on the challenges of producing a floating stage performance. From budget constraints to technical difficulties on the water, their discussion illuminated the complexities and logistics required to capture the magic of ‘Rock The Boat’.
Mabuku highlighted the logistical difficulties of manoeuvring camera and audio equipment on a moving boat, while Matheus explained the unique demands of designing a set that could withstand the elements while enhancing the visual allure of each episode.
Gustav said funding remains an ongoing concern for the series, despite its loyal viewership and strong local support.
Despite these challenges, Ngandu TV has successfully produced 18 episodes, providing a platform for both new and seasoned Namibian artists to showcase their craft in a novel setting.
DJ Vuyo expressed his excitement over the collaboration, describing his experience with Ngandu TV’s team as “seamless and inspiring.”
Known for his electrifying performances, Vuyo’s energy harmonises perfectly with the show’s goal of capturing the vibrancy of Namibian music on a unique floating stage.
The latest episode, featuring DJ Vuyo, is now available on Ngandu TV’s YouTube channel.
