A 19-month-old toddler has died in a fire after his older brother allegedly played with matches, setting two huts ablaze.
The incident happened at around 14h00 on Tuesday at Onyaluwili village in the Omusati region.
According to Omusati police regional commander Ismael Basson, the toddler was left in the house with two other children, aged two and six, by their grandmother who went to a neighbour’s house.
“The six-year-old boy got into his grandmother’s room and took matches, which he used to set two huts on fire. Unknown to him, the toddler was asleep in one of the huts. He died in the fire,” says Basson.
