Ten escape from custody in Omusati

Ten trial-awaiting inmates escaped from the police holding cells at Onandjaba in the Omusati region on Wednesday.

Omusati police regional commander commissioner Ismael Basson said the incident happened at 20h00.

According to Basson, the escapees cut through the roof of the recreational space where they were having dinner.

“We have traced their footprints and we found that they have gone into Angola,” said Basson.

The inmates comprise five Namibians and five Angolan nationals, whose crimes include stock theft, house breaking and rape.

Police investigations continue.
